My favorite movie of all time (because everyone has to pick one) is Chungking Express by Wong Kar Wai. It was a touchstone for my university days. The director recently made his first American movie, My Blueberry Nights, which has a lot of similarities to Chungking Express. They both use a popular singer with awesome stage presence (Wang Faye and Norah Jones), low-end eateries as settings, and memories sparked by particular foods (canned pineapple and blueberry pie).
Anyway, I just watched the first half of My Blueberry Nights and am excited because it's sort of an American sequel to Chungking Express. The latter movie also reminds me of my life before my wife and daughter, but now that I'm watching this one with both of them in my life, I get to associate this new movie with both of them.
Wayfaring Stranger is an American folk song that refers to Christians' temporary presence in this world. But while I may travel this world as a stranger, I am not lost; I follow Jesus and my destination is in heaven.
