Government blows cover on Al-Qaeda "Intranet" spying

Wired News reports on some seriously unfortunate events regarding private monitoring of Al-Qaeda Web operations. Apparently, some volunteer groups that had infiltrated Al-Qaeda's online groups got ahold of an advance copy of Osama's latest video. They shared it with senior Bush administration terror folks, and within hours the news was out on CNN and FOXNEWS. You can guess what happens next--Al-Qaeda shuts down said online groups or beefs up protections.

But apart from the blundering, this reporting is also interesting becauase it shows Al-Qaeda cannot get by without communicating via the Internet. And as any hacker knows, if it's online, it's vulnerable. Asymetry back at you, Osama!
