As he prepares for one last crusade in New York City, Billy Graham recently gave an interview to the New York Times in which he makes clear that his focus is the gospel, not politics. He explains thus:
"If I get on these other subjects, it divides the audience on an issue that is not the issue I'm promoting. I'm just promoting the gospel. And after they come to Christ, they hopefully come to a church where they will learn more about their responsibility in society."I think there is tremendous wisdom in that. It doesn't mean capitulating on political issues or that there is no place for Christian politics. But it does mean that Christians should be preaching the gospel more than they are preaching political viewpoints. America is not a theocracy, and the goal of Christianity is not to change society, but to save souls.
