Gmail needs to move offline

I've been using Google's webmail service, Gmail, for several years now, having switched from Yahoo Mail. I love the way Gmail stores conversation threads, works in my Google Toolbar, integrates chat, searches quickly, offers an intuitive and responsive interface, and basically eliminates storage worries. Microsoft and Yahoo are catching up (I also have Live Hotmail and Yahoo Mail accounts), but Gmail is still better, in my mind.

What's the next step? Gmail needs to offer offline functionality like Outlook. Google needs to get over itself and offer just a little bit of client software so that I can respond to emails while on the bus. Yo, Larry and Sergey, I'm talking to you. Seriously, c'mon.

Actually what you need is a high speed data connection for your wireless device... ;-)

I just signed up for Google's GrandCentral. Pretty gimmicky right now.. Don't see how it could be useful yet.
