Cora ******

Teacher Judy and I just had a little exchange about why I feel its OK to post pictures of Cora online, but am wary about posting information that can be found when people search for ******, my rather unique last name.

Here's a comment I left on Judy's blog:
Be careful about using your family's real names, Judy. Your blog posts are stored in computer servers around the world, even after you've "deleted" them. You don't want something you've said to come around and bite people 20 or 50 years from now.
Her reply via email:
Hi, Tyson--Thanks for that piece of advice--I'll be sure to remember it. I don't intend to get very specific with details.

Along those same lines, I worry a little bit about your showing pictures of Cora....?
And my reply::
That's true. I hope that since I don't use my full name on the blog,
people looking for "Cora ******" on Google won't be able to find
her. That's the bad thing about having a name like ******. While
there might be hundreds of Callarman families in the United States
(maybe even thousands), there is only one ****** family here! You
are a little more safe using your last name than I am.

I'm specifically worried about people who know me professionally doing
a Google search. You can try it yourself, I won't mind. But a search
on my name pulls up my old college web site and also some pages from
my church. Thankfully, it doesn't pull up my blog (and won't in the
future, if I have my way).

I'm not so much afraid of people looking at Cora who won't be able to
identify my real identity. What I'm worried about is people who know
my real identity finding out about my blog and photos of Cora online.
My reasoning is that, as long as I don't use ******, I will be
safe.
