I’m extremely saddened by news that a Marine unit likely massacred two Iraqi families following a roadside bomb that killed one of their own. The Navy has opened an investigation into possible war crimes due to the apparently damning evidence—mainly a videotape and numerous witness accounts that show the dead were not killed by the initial explosion, as the Marines originally claimed, but by close-in Marine fire within the homes of the families. The videotape specifically shows few bullet holes on the outside of the homes, but wreckage and blood splatters inside. There were seven women and three children, including a three-year-old, who were killed with chest and head shots. One 15-year-old girl survived by pretending she was dead.
I respect the sacrifice our Armed Forces make, and understand they are under the most extraordinary pressure in the midst of battle. But the evidence in this case seems overwhelming, and I believe the full truth must be brought to light.

Ditto to your comments on the matter. I hope it's not true, but people in the military have been known to snap before, under stressful conditions. Let's hope they didn't snap here. But... it sounds like they did.
ugh. don't even bring up the war. it's a total crap shoot, and the only way i can deal with it is by not dealing with it. if you look at the age of the war-dead, it's mostly 18-22. what a sacrifice.
