John Wesley on charismatic gifts

John Wesley, founder of the Methodist denomination, said this about the belief that miraculous gifts of the Spirit are not for today:
"That the grand reason why the miraculous gifts were so soon withdrawn, was not only that faith and holiness were well nigh lost, but that dry, formal, orthodox men began even then [after the conversion of Constantine] to ridicule whatever gifts they had not themselves, and to decry them all as either madness or imposture."

it's amazing how something good and valuable falls into disrepute when it's incorrectly used.
