Damaged? Er ... maybe that's an understatement
The above are before and after photos of the al-Askari Mosque, which was blown up by Sunni millitants on February 22.
I was listening to NPR coverage of the bombing. The broadcaster said the mosque's golden dome was "damaged." I just saw the picture of the actual situation, and boy was I surprised.

What a contrast! How very pretty it was! They say this may create civil war. I've been reading The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam and the Crusades (I highly recommend it) and it explains some of the key differences between the sunnis and the shiites. Interesting reading.
i'm glad to hear all the major sect leaders are calling for calm in the aftermath of the bombing. hopefully, there will be a growing awareness that violence is not a way to solve problems, and that awareness will help sap insurgent support.
here's to hoping ...
