I had an interview today with a Microsoft contractor. This position wouldn't really be writing, but it would be front-and-center in supporting MSN ad sales. MSN is one of the big web "portals" to have survived the dot-com bust, and online ad revenues for the entire web industry are growing like crazy. Anyway, I think it's a really interesting job (and it pays pretty well, too).
Anyway, I was a little apprehensive because of the time I've spent looking for work (about four months) and my experience at Nintendo. I gave a really stupid answer to an interview question, which is the reason they cited for "passing on me." The human resources person asked what characteristics I disliked in a manager, which took me aback, since I hadn't thought of that before. Anyway, I came up with, "Well, I don't like a manager that's passing off their work onto me." As soon as a said it, I was kicking myself in the butt. For one thing, I don't really feel that way, and for another, that's not exactly showing a great attitude.
I was ready for that question this time, but it never came up. Next time it does, though, I'll tell them I dislike my boss not giving me enough to do. (Which is true, though it's a mild dislike.) :-P
I'm supposed to know tomorrow, and hopefully I'll let all you know then, too. Keep the faith!
