A pastor's view on evolution

The Washington Post today has an opinion piece written by a Presbyterian pastor who explains his peace with evolutionary theory as science, but not as a philosophy of life. He makes some really good points, and I agree with him that evolution should remain science while religion should not pose as science. Too often, atheists use evolution as an excuse to deny God, and in the process turn evolution into a pseudo philosophy. On the other hand, many conservative Christians are comfortable rejecting any scientific evidence that doesn't fit their interpretation of the Bible--and even go as far as to come up with some pretty whacked "scientific" theories to support that interpretation. Those Christians are essentially practicing Bible-based science, which is as much a perversion as evolution cum philosophy.

... anyway, my bottom line is that evolution really has no bearing on my faith. As the author of the article states, "Science can tell us how things work, but it can never answer questions such as why the Big Bang occurred, or why the first bacterium appeared."

Thanks, Amy, for the link!
