There's not much more I can add to this. From last week's WORLD Magazine:
(Bono is giving an interview for the book, "Bono in Conversation")
"It's a mind-blowing concept that the God who created the Universe might be looking for company, a real relationship with people, but the thing that keeps me on my knees is the difference between Grace and Karma."
The interviewer asks, What's that? "At the center of all religions is the idea of Karma. You know, what you put out comes back to you: an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, or in physics—in physical laws—every action is met by an equal or an opposite one," explains Bono. "And yet, along comes this idea called Grace to upend all that. . . . Love interrupts, if you like, the consequences of your actions, which in my case is very good news indeed, because I've done a lot of stupid stuff."
The interviewer asks, Like what? "That's between me and God. But I'd be in big trouble if Karma was going to finally be my judge," says Bono. "It doesn't excuse my mistakes, but I'm holding out for Grace. I'm holding out that Jesus took my sins onto the Cross, because I know who I am, and I hope I don't have to depend on my own religiosity."
The idea of grace is what makes Christianity reasonable in my mind. Grace is not logical, because it's hard to understand the love of God that afforded us such grace, but it is reasonable because there would be no other way of us meriting the favor of God, as other religions teach we must do. Anyway, it's good news.

I wrote a great post and my compuer fried, so I'll try it again. I agree with Bono, sort of. I believe in Karma. I try to put out as much positive energy as possible and try not to be too negative. Of course, not being perfect, I rely on the GRACE of people around me to forgive my faults. I understand why some people might need a god for that, but it's jsut not for me.
Great post TS!!
Fatalism is the worst kind of God. A bloodless, heartless recorder of good or evil that MINDLESSLY produces effects, bad or good. How could Karma give anyone hope? Hope is that one theological virtue that we flawed creatures need to always remember...what we lack in strength, ability and know how God fills in the rest and makes up the difference. Praise Him!
i really enjoyed reading this in bono in conversations. there are many more discussions about christ and bono's faith throughout the book. i would suggest you buy it if you get a chance.
regards.
