Americans themselves may be the only people who fear and loathe the U.S. government more than those overseas ... at least when it comes to Big Brother-type situations. Folks in Asia, for example, take national ID cards and firearm bans for granted, but here in the United States, those things are seen as the tools of a future repressive federal government.
So I'm wondering why we're seeing so much movement toward national ID cards recently. I previously posted about new federal ID standards, which could lead to state driver's licenses becoming defacto national ID. Now Congress is preparing to overhaul Social Security cards, obstensibly to make identity theft more difficult. Hm ...
