New York Times on Christian efforts in the Ivy League

The New York Times is doing a very much needed series on class distinctions in America, and recently included an interesting article titled "On a Christian Mission to the Top". The article is about Christian Ivy League alumni who were investing in out-reach at their alma maters; you could see their efforts as a sort of investment into the future, since many business and political leaders come from Ivy League institutions. The article notes that as wealthy Christians supported the apostles and early church, wealthy Christians today are contributing big bucks to Christian outreach. A surprising statistic quoted says that Campus Crusade receives more money per year than the Public Broadcasting System!

The article also focuses in on one Brown University graduate, Tim Havens, who decided to go back to that school and continue outreach work, which reminded me a lot of the days I spent in ministry at the University of Washington while studying there--dinner parties and prayer meetings in stairwells. So, Tim Havens, I'll be praying for you! God bless!

I couldn't find the list of charities without paying some money, but Campus Crusade took in $417 million last year.

I'm praying for Tim as well!

that's awesome, douglas! but i do remember one campus crusade guy at the uw who wasn't too happy about all these upstart christian student groups. when i was there, we had about 20 different christian student grouops, i guess, and the guy expressed disdain when we set up our booths together. oh well. the campus crusade Jesus video actually contributed to the conversion of my pastor.
