The American dream is fading

The New York Times has been running a series on class divisions in America and their impact on people's standard of living and opportunity for advancement and. Unfortunately, class divisions continue to widen with the advantaged getting stronger and the disadvantaged getting weaker.

The NYT editorial page this Monday prescibes several remedies to help address this problem, including stronger affirmative action, early education, anti-poverty measures, and more tax breaks for the middle and lower classes. I'm not sure what anti-poverty means, but it sounds like a good idea. And to be truthful, I found President Bush's recent tax cuts to be structured very poorly, giving the bulk of the taxpayer savings to the rich.
